With autism awareness month in April and the upcoming Milestones Autism Conference, here at Timocco we are exploring the contribution that we can make – as a therapeutic tool, in order to further the enjoyment and independence of all children with ASD.
We hope that by providing you – the therapists, with more effective and suitable ways to use our program in therapy, you will be able to make the most of all the Timocco has to offer children with ASD.
We recognize that many children with Autism are referred to Occupational Therapy in order to address a broad range of developmental delays including fine motor, gross motor and cognitive skills, to name a few. The Timocco Training Plans are highly useful in addressing such skill-based or functional areas of therapy.
The Timocco “Teamwork” Training Plan is one of our plans which could be a great therapeutic tool for children with ASD. This plan encourages the development of basic interaction skills including; turn taking, working together, problem-solving and sharing of physical space with a partner. The plan has been designed to be played with a partner, making it ideal for working on shared attention too. This plan could be used as a great tool in therapy sessions with a classmate or therapist.
For clients with lower functional abilities, the Timocco “Cause & Effect” Training Plan may be a great place to start when looking at therapeutic goals that relate to the more basic level of meaningful engagement with an object and early exploration. The plan has been designed to reflect the cause and effect relationship to the child. The simple games and highly responsive auditory and visual feedback facilitate the child’s understanding of the causational relationship between their movements and the stimuli from the game. The same such stimuli provide motivation and interest for the child while they are at this early stage of meaningful engagement.
