Tim-Focus is one of Timocco’s new gaming packages. Among them are, Tim-Duet and Cause and Effect. These two packages, their therapeutic value, and objective have been flushed out in previous articles on the Timocco blog.
Like the other games, Tim-Focus has it’s own unique, specific capabilities geared toward specific conditions. Primarily, Tim-Focus is well suited for children with ADHD.
Tim Focus requires the child to focus on objects of primary and secondary importance, while simultaneously filtering out distractions. This action also improves motor accuracy.
In order for the child to improve motor regulation and reduce impulsiveness, the child must identify features of the character and also recognize the differences. Such a game requires the child to discern the relevant features and act on the stimulus that does not belong. For example, the alien game instructs the child to recognize the relevant / significant features (green alien) and locate the stimulus that does not belong, not allowing this stimulus to go into the spaceship (purple aliens).
The child works on delayed response and visual discrimination as well. For example, the moving car game requires the child to regulate the speed while controlling impulsiveness. This means, the user must restrain speed when other stimuli approach i.e., road signs, random stimuli crossing the road, and the like. This control of behavior teaches the child the intrinsic, rewarding feedback associated with the focused action.
Tobii Eye Gaze technology allows children with severe physical disabilities to play all of the Timocco games through the use of eye movement. This allows every child the freedom and control to play, learn and heal.
